Professor Lori Sims, from Western
MIchigan University, taught a Master
Class for the Livonia Area Piano
Teachers monthly meeting at Hammell
Music.

Well prepared students of Elizabeth
Baxter, Christina Dragone, and Brenda
Krachenberg performed works by
Haydn, Grieg and Kabelevsky.

Professor Sims' teaching provided
insight and inspiration to all in
attendance.

Gold medalist at the 1998 Gina
Bachauer International Piano
Competition, Lori Sims has performed
throughout America and Europe over
the past two decades and will appear
at Carnegie Hall on March 18. The
New York Times describes her playing
as “big and powerful . . . but capable of
considerable delicacy as well,” with
“never a hint of the self-aggrandizing
effect or the superfluous musical
gesture.” A student of Leon Fleisher at
the Peabody Conservatory and Daniel
Pollack and Claude Frank at the Yale
School of Music, Sims is the John T.
Bernhard Professor of Music at
Western Michigan University.
